By the start of 1943, and the defeat of the German 6th Army at Stalingrad, it was clear that the Nazis were losing the war. And it is just as clear that charismatic leadership has a tough time surviving failure. So how was it possible that Hitler kept his hold over the fate of Germany until Red Army soldiers were all but at the door of his bunker in Berlin in April 1945?
