The Body Beautiful, a new season from BBC Three running from 19th - 28th November, explores these questions and more through a collection of enlightening and in-depth documentaries looking at everything from acne and exercise to surgery and weight loss.
The season kicks off with BBC Three’s I Want To Change My Body on Monday 19th November at 9pm, in which young Brits turn the camera on themselves to tell their own stories, as they go on a personal quest to transform their bodies.
Gemma Cairney investigates the extraordinary pressure felt by young people to have perfect skin in Dying For Clear Skin (BBC Three, Monday 26th November, 9pm), while Transsexual Teen Beauty Queen (BBC Three, Wednesday 21st November, 9pm) follows the world’s youngest transsexual Jackie Green as she attempts to win Miss England.
Also on BBC Three, I Hate My Body: Skinny Boys and Muscle Men (Wednesday 21st November, 9pm) looks at the impact obsession with size and shape can have on young men, and Inside The Body Beautiful (starts Tuesday 27th November, 9pm) explores the physiological and psychological changes that happen as young people strive to alter their appearance.
Britain’s Biggest Beauty Queens (Wednesday 28th November, 9pm) invites us into the world of Miss BBW, a thriving competition in the US now heading to Britain, and Jake Humphries will host a special edition of BBC Three’s live discussion show Free Speech (Tuesday 27th November, 8pm).
