Jarvis Cocker on Richard Brautigan’s grisly death
Duration: 02:43
Jarvis Cocker explores the life and legacy of American writer Richard Brautigan, whose novel 'Sombrero Fallout' Jarvis selected as the only book he would take with him on Desert Island Discs. Cocker meets William Hjortsberg who was Brautigan’s neighbour when he lived in Montana before his move to California where he committed suicide in 1984. Hjortsberg describes the horrifying details of the author’s death and his efforts to peel back the layers of Brautigan folklore to assess Brautigan’s place in the canon of modern American literature.
