Wallander travels to Latvia on the hunt for killers

Wallander arrives in to Riga and is transported by a Sergeant Zids to Liepa’s funeral. Here Wallander meets Liepa’s widow, the delicate but resilient Baiba who informs Wallander that Liepa had liked the book he had given him.
Wallander is introduced to Liepa’s colleagues - Colonels Putnis and Murnieks – who show Wallander to the spot where Liepa was murdered. Like the victims before him, Liepa was forced to endure torture before his death.
