With changes to legislation encouraging more and more people to become homeowners, the 1970s was the decade when DIY and interior design soared in popularity. During this boom in home decorating two very distinct styles began to emerge. BBC Review pitched an enthusiast for furniture that is ‘built to last’ against a fan of ‘lettuce green’ and lampshades.
