The first round of the French presidential elections took place last Sunday, giving a lead to the Socialist candidate Francois Hollande. Hugh Schofield examines the mood of the electorate.

Traffic problems are common to many cities, but Egypt's seem particularly bad. Tom Dinham describes the unique way that local residents have developed to hail a bus.
