Educated, gentle and imposing, Amanjit Singh came to Eaton Place as secretary to the late Lady Holland.
He was at first a shadowy and isolated figure, occupying a position that was neither upstairs nor down. However once he managed to break the ice, he became a welcome and respected member of their tribe. His nascent romance with Rachel, a German parlourmaid, was nipped in the bud when she died unexpectedly. He retains an interest her surviving daughter’s welfare.
