Len Goodman on the origins of swing dance
Len Goodman looks back at the origins of swing dance back in 1930’s New York where the Harlem’s Renaissance of culture, music and dance was in full flow. Swing pioneer Frankie Manning, first found his dancing feet at local rent parties he attended with his mother. For many young dancers dancing at the Savoy Ballroom was a rites of passage. One of the top dancer’s there Shorty ‘George’ Snowden invented the original Lindy Hop moves there inspired by Lindbergh flying over the Atlantic.
