Web exclusive: living legend Bhanwari Devi
You must enable Javascript in order to play clips Duration: 03:42
Living legend Bhanwari Devi sings a devotional song to the Lord Krishna, at home in her remote village in rural Rajasthan. Her fabulous voice soars through the unglazed windows and open door of the simple house she shares with the extended family of 22 that she supports - seven of them her own children. Married at 9 or 10 and now widowed, she had her first son at 12. He accompanies her with his brother Krishna, on harmonium and drums. The music drifts across the surrounding farmland and desert. Moved to tears by the song, she is comforted by Divya Bhatia from JVF, a foundation which supports traditional musicians.
