Ray Bryant and Snooky Young

As well as the deaths of two leading jazz musicians, Ray Bryant last week and Eugene ‘Snooky’ Young last month, there’s plenty more to chose from. Ray Brown has many friends and one of them is trumpeter Terence Blanchard and they make great music together. Louis Armstrong sings a Fats Waller tune at the Town Hall Concert in New York. That was in 1947 while in 1953, Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond are showing the jazz world how lyrical they can be and how they could swing as well. Getting up to date and we shall do that with Norwegian singer Karin Krog who sings a Horace silver tune with the Meantimes. Gordon Goodwin from his acclaimed album ‘The Phat Pack’ and Chris Walden from his CD ‘No Bounds’ have a treat for fans of big band jazz. Ian Shaw pays tribute to the writings of Rodgers and Hart while the National Youth Jazz Orchestra play and Atila Huseyn sings new words to the old song Ida.
