Job cuts in the Fire Service
Berkshire's Fire Service is being accused of getting its priorities wrong when it comes to budget cuts. Nearly £1.5m-worth of savings will be considered by the fire authority this week. Cuts being considered are scrapping at least 24 jobs, a freeze on recruitment, reducing the number of fire engines responding to automatic fire alarms and changes to response in rural areas. Maurice Whyte from the FBU told Andrew Peach his concerns with these proposals.
