Prokofiev: Violin Concerto No. 1 in D (Op. 19)
Stephen Johnson explores Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1. Prokofiev began sketching the work against a backdrop of war in 1915 and composed the bulk of it in the turbulent revolutionary year of 1917. It proved to be one of his first mature works. The specially recorded musical examples are played by Thomas Bowes (violin), with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, conducted by Peter Stark.
