Synopsis

How do you survive the political firestorm of making deep cuts? We speak to the famously tough former Finance Minster and then Prime Minister of Canada Paul Martin, who eliminated the country's deficit in just four years.

In times of economic austerity can entrepreneurism flourish? Investment bank Goldman Sachs certainly believes so and has launched a scheme it thinks will help. But will it work? We speak to Lord Graham Kirkham, a supporter of the scheme, and Alex Pratt, an entrepreneur who argues tough times offer the best business opportunities.

Economic recovery may not be the only concern for the Government. It appears that Britain is a long way down the world rankings when it comes to optimism about jobs and future economic performance. So is it possible to plot the relationship between happiness and economic growth? We speak to philosopher Julian Baggini.

And the price of power seems to be taking its toll on the Liberal Democrat leader and Deputy Prime Minister recently. Andrew Grimson, the Daily Telegraph's parliamentary sketch writer, discusses Nick Clegg's rather eventful week in the Commons.
