Episode 1 of 4

Duration: 30 minutes

Monty Don looks at Dutch floral art during 'tulip-mania', when tulip bulbs in the 17th century Netherlands were worth more than their weight in gold. At the same time Europe entered its greatest period of flower painting. Thanks to artists like Jan Van Huysum, the tulip has since become the symbol of an entire nation.
