Episode 4 of 4

Duration: 30 minutes

Monty Don charts the appearances and meanings of the rose in art, focusing on the works of Renaissance artists and the rose-obsessed Dante Gabriel Rossetti. This particular flower is often used as a depiction of romantic love, but since classical times it has also been a symbol of death, rebirth, sin, sex, secrecy and decadence.
