Spring to life
Altitude can delay the effects of latitude. Where the air is thinner it is slower to warm, making spring in the mountains shorter and the burst for life even faster. As the sun sweeps through, its heat and its rain bring life to the fast-growing plants and the moisture relishing animals, such as snails.
