Modern watertight, air-tight buildings don't have the nooks and crannies that birds like to nest in. What birds prefer are traditional or 'messy' buildings. Bill Oddie explores the outbuildings of a farmyard. He finds some swallows' nests in a barn. Not all of them are in use. Swallows choose nice, cool shady places like this to build their nests. One sings vigorously. It has journeyed all the way from Africa to get here, through bad weather and past hungry predators. Swallows are one of Bill's favourite birds.
