Synopsis
A review Stephen King's new novel, a tour of Decode: Digital Design Sensations at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Cambodia's annual film festival Cambofest and UK duo Smoke Fairies.
Stephen King
The best-selling author and master novelist Stephen King has written another enormous work (it's been 25 years in the writing) - about an American town that suddenly finds itself under an enormous invisible forcefield. What caused it and how will the town cope? Professor Diane Roberts reviews it for The Strand.
Cambofest
At Cambodia's annual film festival organisers have been struggling to find any local films to show. Production in the country has slowed to a trickle and the capital Phnom Penh is down to its last two cinemas. So where do young would-be film-makers go when they are looking for inspiration? As the BBC's Guy De Launey found out for The Strand, more and more are looking to the past and the golden era of Cambodian film in the 1960s and 70s.
Smoke Fairies
Two young women from a sleepy part of the UK are being hailed as the next big thing by some of the biggest current names in the business. Building a bridge between British folk music and rock this thoughtful duo have come to the attention of Jack White from The White Stripes amongst others and are being courted by record companies left right and centre. They come in to talk with Mark and play a song too.
The photograph shows Katherine Blamire and Jessica Davies, the Smoke Fairies.
