    How did South African artists respond to Apartheid? A new exhibition developed by the Iziko South African National Gallery in Cape Town and the Nobel Peace Foundation in Oslo, Norway explores this question by using the lives and times of Albert Luthuli, Desmond Tutu, F.W. De Klerk and Nelson Mandela as a starting point. Iziko's Director of Art Collections talks Mark Coles through how politics and culture affected the country's art.

    The Italian novelist and semiotician, Umberto Eco, is the latest in a string of special guest curators at Paris' Louvre - previous incumbents have included the writer Toni Morrison, the painter and sculptor Anselm Kiefer and the composer Pierre Boulez.
