Amazon rainforest

Drained by the mighty Amazon river, the planet's largest expanse of tropical rainforest contains an extraordinary number of different species. On a single tree, scientists have discovered as many as 650 kinds of beetle and 80 kinds of ant. There may be disagreement on the reasons for this diversity, but in almost every group of animals the number of different species is extraordinary.
