Synopsis

Human stories from behind the global headlines. With Matthew Bannister.

On today's programme: fleeing Swat; recession in Rotherham - final part and life after shopping.

Fleeing Swat
The last time we spoke to Adnan he was trapped with fifteen family members in his home watching the gun battles between the Pakistan army and Taleban militants outside. Now the army has declared victory over the rebels, Adnan has managed to escape the area and he tells Matthew Bannister how lucky he feels to be with his family in a safe place.

Recession in Rotherham
In the final part of our series "recession in Rotherham" Outlook's Vera Frankl meets the people who have been forced on to the streets because of the economic downturn in the South Yorkshire town.

Life after shopping
We meet the Reverend Billy - leader of "the Church of Stop Shopping" - who along with his choir - and his wife - is now travelling the world crusading against consumerism. He and his wife Savitri Durkee tell Matthew Bannister why their crusade is more important now than ever.
