Ernie Almond

Ernie Almond joined BBC Three Counties Radio when the cement was still wet, apparently he just knocked the door and persuaded us that we couldn't manage without him!

Starsign: Taurus

Born 'n' bred: Harpenden (well, Batford actually - wrong side of the river!)

Last job: Been in the entertainment biz since 1970

Football team: Not really into Footie, but I love contact sports!

I wouldn't be working here if it wasn't for: Malcolm Singer

Most interesting fact about you: I'm a LOT younger than I look!

Most annoying trait: Tend to name drop

Claim to fame (other than being on Three Counties Radio): Have entertained the son's and daughters of more than one royal family

Most embarrassing moment (not on air): Whilst on stage compering a very big function in London I forgot the name of the first artist!

Most embarrassing on air incident: Interviewing a vicar in the ladies toilet of a pub. (It was the only quiet place!)

Weirdest place you spent the night: In a hut on stilts on the beach in the Philippines

First record bought: 78rpm single from the film "High Society"!!!!!!

My first car: Very rusty Vauxhall Victor

My favourite place in Beds, Herts and Bucks: All of it.

Desert island luxury: Electric kettle and tea bags. Assuming there's drinking water!

My hero: Les Dawson

Would hate to be in the Big Brother house with: Would just hate being there. But if you insist, Janet Street Porter.

Favourite item in my wardrobe: Pair of crushed velvet loon pants - they don't make 'em like that anymore!

If I wasn't at BBC Three Counties Radio I'd be: Rich!

My dream co-presenter would be: Jonathan Vernon-Smith

Realised I was getting old when: My eyebrows started matching my hair colour - which is Ash-Blonde!

Useful tip: Tune your radio to BBC Three Counties, then pour Super Glue on the knob!

Listen to Ernie Almond every Sunday afternoon from 3pm.
