Nicola Benedetti guests
Classical violinist Nicola Benedetti is Jools' guest, playing live with the band and picking some of her favourite records.
Nicola Benedetti is one of the most sought after violinists of her generation. Her ability to captivate audiences with her innate musicianship and dynamic presence, coupled with her wide appeal as a high profile advocate for classical music, has made her one of the most influential classical artists of today.
Fiercely committed to music education and to developing young talent, Nicola has formed associations with education establishments including schools, music colleges and local authorities. Nicola embraces her position as a board member and teacher at Scotland's Big Noise project by encouraging young people to take up music and work hard at it, and she continues to spread this message in school visits and masterclasses, not only in Scotland, but all around the world.
Winner of Best Female Artist at the 2012 and 2013 Classical BRIT Awards, Nicola became the most-nominated UK female artist in the awards' history. "The Silver Violin", a collection of music associated with the silver screen, became the highest-charting classical instrumental album in the UK of the last two decades, reaching No. 30 in the pop charts and remaining at No. 1 in the classical charts for all seven weeks since its release. Her most recent recording "The Violin" (UK version "My First Decade"), a compilation of chart-topping and new recordings, was issued by Decca in September 2013. July 2014 brings the release of Nicola's new album "Homecoming - A Scottish Fantasy", and her appearance at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
