    Time to say goodbye

Finishing live blogs are always a little bit of a sad affair, because we do have a bit of a ball when we're doing them. Hankies aside, all good things must come to end. So, thanks for reading and thanks too for listening. We hope you enjoyed it. We're donning our wellies one more time and going to trudge back to base camp. Until next year!

And don't forget you can hear the show in full by clicking the link below (available until 9am Friday 6 June)

Listen to all of the winners stories and the whole show

The clever hard-working people at Radio 2 towers have got moving very fast this morning and made audio clips of all the winning short stories read out by our celebrity readers including Benedict Cumberbatch, Hugh Bonneville and Paloma Faith. Click on the link below to hear them. Take a listen. They're brilliant.

    Coffee Break

It's been quite a morning. Quite an early morning for us. So, if you don't mind, we'll take a coffee break. Put our feet up for a short while.

But before we do, here's some things about the 500 Words competition you may not have known.

    - 500 Words is the brainchild of our very own Chris Evans. It was started in 2011.

    - In its first year we received nearly 30,000 entries, 90,271 entries last year and an astonishing 118,632 entries this year!

    - An impressive arm of volunteer readers (teachers and librarians) helped us judge the competition. A total of 3,500 volunteer judges were needed to mark the first round alone!

    - On the 500 Words Website we've published a top writing masterclass from Frank Cottrell Boyce, there are writing tips from celebrity judges and a fantastic 500 Words Alphabot just to help get the creative juices flowing.

Now then. Someone's cooking bacon. So as soon as we've got a bacon butty, we'll be back.

    We've had a lovely time ..

But we're not quite done yet. We'll be sharing some links out.

And, if we're not mistaken, the sun might even be coming out. Oh, no. Hang on. We're making that bit up.
