Discover 10 new voices over 10 Afternoon Dramas

Charlie was born a boy but has always known that she's really a girl. What's to be done? The arrival of a German exchange student prompts Charlie to take action.

Simon Topping is one of the two winners of the newly established BBC Writer's Prize. This is his first play for radio.

Directed by Sally Avens

The BBC Writers' prize was established to create a unique opportunity for new and established writers who want to write for Radio Drama and Radio Comedy. The response was extraordinary, with over 1,200 original scripts submitted to BBC writersroom for consideration.

The judges said:
"In Rock me Amadeus Simon Topping takes on a challenging subject - gender identity - and explores it with a lightness of tone and a freshness of voice that makes it an utterly engaging read. It is a warm, playful piece of writing that doesn't duck the serious issues."

The cast is led by Alex Lawther who came to attention in David Hare's play 'South Downs' for which he was nominated as newcomer of the year in the What's On Stage Awards in 2013.

He's joined by Karina Fernandez best known for her appearances in Mike Leigh's films 'Happy Go Lucky' and 'Another Year', Craige Els ' Call The Midwife' 'Endeavour', Nikki Runeckles 'Bad Education' and recent graduates 'Felix Auer' and Scarlett Brookes.
