Mary Chapin Carpenter

American singer/songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter has enjoyed a music career spanning nearly three decades. Her mixture of Americana and Country Music has gained her a loyal following of fans world-wide including here in Scotland.

In this musical treat from the BBC Radio Scotland archives, talking to Phil Cunningham she recalls her childhood growing up in Princeton, New Jersey, her first motor car and she discovers she shares a love of dogs with Phil.

Opening the show with the track Goodnight America from her latest album, Mary Chapin goes on to pick tracks by Joni Mitchell, Lunasa, Mark Knopfler, The Travelling Wilburys and her final choice from Tift Merritt and Simone Dinnerstein.
