Maria David investigates the increasing number of private nursing homes closing their doors to older people in Wales.

  • Nursing Home Closures

An increasing number of private nursing homes are closing in Wales, with nearly 800 beds lost in the last four years and 250 in the last 12 months alone.

It's a trend that is posing profound problems for the families of the ill and elderly, who are facing increasing difficulties in finding local homes able to take their loved ones.

Eye on Wales reveals the declining numbers of beds across the country and hears warnings that the situation is likely to get worse as more private care providers find that the sums for providing nursing care no longer add up.
