Smokey Robinson

Trevor Nelson hosts a special show celebrating soul legend, Smokey Robinson.

It is ahead of the iconic singer-songwriter's guest appearance at the Radio 2 Live In Hyde Park event on Sunday 8 September.

As one of Motown Records' biggest stars and in-house songwriters, few artists have done as much to create the template for modern pop music over almost half a century.

Smokey delivered a string of hits with his band The Miracles and wrote for many other major Motown stars including The Temptations, The Supremes, and Marvin Gaye.

Among the many classics penned by the prolific singer-songwriter are My Guy, Get Ready, Ain't That, Tears of a Clown, I Second That Emotion and Being With You.

In this special show, Trevor will be playing much-loved tracks performed by Smokey, as well as covers of his songs by other well-known artists.

Plus listeners will hear from Smokey himself, as Trevor digs into the BBC archive and uncovers rarely heard interview material featuring the soul great.
