Ken Bruce continues with a special 2Day show which this year celebrates the orchestra. Ken champions the woodwind section of the orchestra, and attempts to play the most basic of woodwind instruments; the recorder. Clare Teal is joined by members of the BBC Big Band and Alison Moyet at London's Hackney Empire to look at how woodwind instruments are used in jazz improvisation. Legendary clarinet player Acker Bilk talks to Ken about the love for his instrument and Prog rock supremo and flautist Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull chats about the role of the flute in popular music.
2013 marks the 60th anniversary of the world's longest running orchestral music show 'Friday Night is Music Night', and this year's 2Day celebrates the orchestra and its instruments, culminating in a Friday Night Is Music Night Gala concert at the Hackney Empire in London.
