Out of Nowhere - the music of Bill Holman

Clare Teal presents the BBC Big Band and conductor Eliot Murray in session performing the music of arranger Bill Holman. Including works written by Bill for the bands of Stan Kenton, Count Basie, Buddy Rich and Doc Severinsen's Tonight Show Orchestra.

One of the jazz world's most successful - and enduring writers Bill Holman's work gained its first exposure when he joined Stan Kenton's saxophone section in 1951. Since then he has gone on to write for a list of artists that reads like a who's who of popular music. These include Woody Herman, Charlie Barnet, Ella Fitzgerald, Natalie Cole, Michael Buble and the 5th Dimension.

Tonight's session includes Bill's memorable reinventions of standards including Out of Nowhere, After You've Gone and Isn't She Lovely.
