News from home and abroad with Dotun Adebayo
The sister of the American music legend, Johnny Cash, tells Up All Night about her plans to open their 'humble' childhood home to tourists. Joanne Cash Yates, who lived in the small wooden building in Dyess Arkansas until she was 17, says it's an emotional process for her. That home was not only where she and Johnny were brought up, it was also the scene of the tragic death of their brother, after being badly injured by a saw. Joanne wants people to see what a 'beautiful' clean home they spent their childhood in - not the dilapidated building at 4791 West County Road it later became. It's 10 years now since her brother died in Nashville, and Joanne is now a curator of his memory. She tells Dotun he was 'wonderful... he made a lot of mistakes but never tried to hide his mistakes and always went to God to get his life straight again'.
