Build a Big Band
Singer and presenter Clare Teal returns to her West Yorkshire roots in a special performance recorded at Leeds Town Hall. Staged in partnership with BBC Radio Leeds the 'build a big band concert' is the culmination of weeks of rehearsal by the members of the newly formed BBC Radio Leeds Community Big Band. Under the direction of Grant Windsor this is the first performance of this 'big band with a difference'. Over the course of this summer BBC Radio Leeds and Clare built this 40 strong big band from scratch. The auditions attracted a wide selection of big band enthusiasts ranging from an Otley based octogenarian trumpeter to a six year old trombonist from Shipley.
The result is a true community based line up with an eclectic mix of ages, backgrounds and experiences bound together by their musical ability and enthusiasm. Joining them in this special performance held in aid of BBC Children in Need are jazz and soul singer Gregory Porter and chart topping pop idol Olly Murs. The range of music performed by the BBC Radio Leeds Community Big Band is also diverse with a mixture of jazz, soul and popular hits. These include Troublemaker, On My Way to Harlem, Dream Lover and Ain't no Mountain High Enough.
