In the first episode of a new series of Neighbourhood Blues, the police series that gets inside the grassroots fight against crime, we get an insight into the everyday problems that blight people's lives.
The Hull Neighbourhood Team earn their stripes in the fight against drug crime as wily PCSO Pat uncovers a cannabis factory on an industrial estate. His discovery leads to a staggering two million pounds of cannabis - ready to hit the streets - being seized and destroyed.
Community officer Sam Gregory uses her unique local knowledge to track down a gang of youths responsible for attacking the owner of a local takeaway. The fight is captured on CCTV, giving Sam all the clues she needs to round up the young offenders.
And in a bid to combat the city's growing homelessness problem, the team try to help rough sleepers off the streets - and then show solidarity by joining them for a night in a cardboard city. But as they find out, no matter how hard they try, some people just do not want to be helped to find a warm bed and board.
