American Cities

David Stenhouse puts American cities under the spotlight, starting with a visit to 1960s California and one of the most famous music concerts of all time. Altamont Free Festival has come to represent the end of the hippy dream. From a series called "Gigs That Changed The World", Muriel Gray tells the tale of the tragedy at Altamont, then in a programme called Secret Scots, Phil Cunningham meets Steve Forbes, to hear how his scottish grandfather built a New York institution.
