Did Hip Hop Predict the Riots?

Duration:
1 hour
First broadcast:
Sunday 02 September 2012

Charlie Sloth investigates whether hip hop and UK rappers foresaw the riots of August 2011 within their lyrics.

With the help of key underground rappers such as English Frank, Mic Righteous, Scorcher, Logic and Plan B, we find out how UK Rap reflected the urban young's state of mind leading up to August 2011.

We try to understand how common rap subjects such as politics, personal pain and materialism all had a part to play (and were reflected) in the 2011 riots. Including talking to Logic about the police, English Frank about social networking as a catalyst and Mic Rightous about young people's attitudes before the unrest.
