Boothams Quaker School
Boothams School is an independent, co-educational school near York for students aged 3 – 18. It’s founded on Quaker principles but welcomes students of all faiths and backgrounds. School assemblies are run as Quaker meetings for worship i.e. they are held in silence but anyone is free to speak if they feel moved to do so.
Sara Maitland
Sara grew up in London and South-West Scotland as the second of
six children. She studied English at Oxford University and went on to become a writer of both fiction and non-fiction. She was a vicar’s wife for over twenty years and has two grown-up children but for the last ten years she has been living on her own and pursuing “a deep and joyful fascination with silence.”
