This week Brian Matthew shares the stories behind the music, including how Marvin Gaye's I Heard It Through The Grapevine almost didn't make it to the mainstream.

There's a rare treat in the form of a song by the legendary and greatly missed comedian/magician, Tommy Cooper, which brought him great chart success after its TV showcase on Thank Your Lucky Stars.

The Loose Connection this week links Petula Clark, The Vogues and The Walker Brothers. And the BBC Session has been dug out from the depths of the archives of Saturday Club in 1968. It comes from the Status Quo boys, their first session after they changed their name from The Traffic Jam.

Listener requests this week include tracks from The Small Faces, Roy Orbison, The Mockingbirds and Cliff Richard.
