Breakbeat Kaos

1 hour
First broadcast:
Monday 06 August 2012

DJ Fresh and Adam F are legends in the scene. Many know Fresh bagged the first ever Number 1 dubstep and Drum & Bass records with 'Louder' and 'Hot Right Now', but not everybody knows the journey he took to get there.

We shed light on Fresh's early days in Drum & Bass super group Bad Company, whose high energy tunes changed the sound of a genre, and Fresh reveals how close he was to giving up music entirely, as well as how a story from Paulo Coelho kept him going, leading eventually to his massive commercial success.

Adam F is also a super-producer. His Mobo award winning 'Colours' album is one of the most important in the Drum & Bass scene, whilst 'Kaos', his pioneering hip hop album, meant he was one of the UK's first underground producers to travel to America and work with A-list artists such as Redman, LL Cool J and De La Soul.

Together Adam F and DJ Fresh run the label, Breakbeat Kaos, probably the most influential label in Bass music, having brought through artists like Pendulum, Chase & Status, Nero and The Brookes Brothers.

This is the story of DJ Fresh & Adam F as both label owners and artists in their own right.

With guests including: contemporaries - Fabio, Grooverider, dBridge, LTJ Bukem, London Electricity; artists they've signed - Pendulum, Chase & Status, The Brookes Brothers; artists they've worked with - Rita Ora, Dizzee Rascal, Rizzle Kicks, Redman, LL Cool J; and artists they've inspired - Flux Pavillion, Example, Rudimental, Benga & Skream.
