Help Us Make The People's Songs

January 2013 saw the start of Radio 2's epic new series, The People's Songs. We need your help to make each episode in the series. Here's how you can get involved...

On Wednesday nights at 10pm throughout 2013, The People's Songs tells the story of modern Britain since World War II via the songs that provided a soundtrack over the past 70 years.

The starting point for each of the 50 episodes in the series is an unforgettable and timeless song chosen by Stuart Maconie. Each episode reflects on the song's impact upon its release and explores the cultural themes and events of the time.

Most importantly, every show will feature the voices of Radio 2 listeners and the people of Britain, for whom each song conjures a kaleidoscope of memories. YOUR contributions are crucial to the series - they will feature in every episode and will be showcased online.

You can read and listen to previews of every part of the series and see what kind of memories we're looking for on our episode pages.

By sharing your stories, comments and memories with us now, you can can help shape each part of the series before it is broadcast. Think about:

  • What influence did each song have on your life?
  • Where were you living at the time and what were you doing?
  • What memories and events does the song conjure in your mind?

We look forward to hearing from you! Check out the different ways you can contribute on the right hand side of this page, or simply email thepeoplessongs@bbc.co.uk

Episode 50 - The People's Choice

Additionally, we're also asking listeners to suggest the theme for our final, 50th episode.

We invite you to have a look at the list of episodes and put your thinking caps on.

  • Is there a period of Britain’s history that we've overlooked?
  • What aspects of British life and culture haven't been covered in the series?
  • And which song should be the focal point of our final show?

You can email us to make a suggestion, or get in touch on Twitter at @bbcpeoplesongs or @stuartmaconie.
