The next in Radio 2's Comedy Showcase series is a sketch show written by and starring The Trap.
Dan Mersh, Jeremy Limb and Paul Litchfield began working together as The Trap in 2000. Since then they have created four highly acclaimed live shows, while credits collectively and individually cover 15 Storeys High, People Like Us, Jam and Jerusalem, Armando Iannucci's Charm Offensive, Comedy Cuts, Headcases and Miranda.
Not only will the show feature a variety of sketches and songs, but it will also feature an interactive quiz. (Not really). So you could win a stunning prize. (You can't). It also features Peep Show's Isy Suttie. (That bit's true). And posing the questions in the fictional quiz will be Newsnight's Kirsty Wark.(That's true, too).
Three-man comedy team The Trap have created some of the most innovative, inspired, hilarious and noisy live sketch shows the world has ever seen. Their props ranged from a set of 'glass bagpipes' to the actual Goodies' trandem, which they still own to this day. Their revolutionary use of multi-media caused one reviewer to ask: "Like all good inventions, I don't know why nobody had thought of doing comedy like this before".
Their merciless spoofs of atrocious student theatre, the Bad Play series of shows, gained a fervent cult following. This summer they return to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for the first time in six years to perform Bad Musical, which aims to be the worst musical ever conceived, written and performed.
This new show, recorded in a packed BBC Radio Theatre, takes in job interviews, murders, awards ceremonies, and a singalong of a Wings' classic (see if you can guess what it is).
