Old Scores

In the summer of 1969 teenagers in Rathcoole played together as a football team for the last time.

The arrival of the Troubles blew the whistle on their shared sport. Some players would join the loyalist paramilitaries, while another became involved in the IRA. He was Bobby Sands, later a Westminster MP. Olenka Frenkiel talks to survivors of the team.
