On this special edition of Jazz House, Stephen Duffy takes us on a journey through the classic Big Bands in the UK. Top British names such as Tommy Sampson, Vic Lewis, Johnny Spence and Syd Lawrence will be played but what about the unique all women band from Ivy Benson? Former BBC Jazz presenter Sheila Tracy will be there to tell us all about it. In the second hour of the programme, Stephen Duffy will focus on the dedicated BBC Bands such as the BBC Dance Orchestra, The BBC Scottish Radio Orchestra and the current BBC Big Band and to comment on that enormous catalogue, the BBC Big Band principal arranger and conductor for BBC Radio 3, Barry Forgie will be joining Stephen for comment and anecdotes.
