The Story of Labrinth

Duration:
1 hour
First broadcast:
Sunday 22 April 2012

1Xtra's Mistajam tells the story of Labrinth, the artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist - not to mention restraurateur!

You may know him as the guy behind Tinie Tempah's Brit Award-winning single 'Pass Out', or perhaps you first of heard him when 'Earthquake' hit the scene? But did you know that music runs deep in his family? Or that he sees colours when he writes music?

Mistajam heads to the rising star's restaurant in Wood Green to discover the ingredients that transformed Hackney teenager Timothy McKenzie into super-producer Labrinth. He comes from a large, musically talented family - his brother plays drums for Tinie Tempah and his sisters provide vocal sessions for Terri Walker and Wretch 32. But what was it like growing up in the McKenzie household?

From his first publishing deal with EMI, to the release of his debut album Electronic Earth, just what is the recipe to Labrinth's success?
