Gilles' First Show for BBC 6 Music

Gilles Peterson joins BBC Radio 6 Music for a weekly journey crossing continents to explore musical genres.

One of the most influential DJs of the last 25 years, Gilles started his career in pirate radio in the mid 1980s before going on to present shows on BBC London, Jazz FM and Radio 1. On the way he founded two seminal record labels - Acid Jazz and Talkin' Loud - launching the careers of Galliano, Jamiroquai and Roni Size along the way.

He has also DJed worldwide from Cuba to Brazil, via Japan, America and France, unearthing music from all eras and all genres along the way. More recently his new Brownswood label has launched the career of Mercury nominated artist Ghostpoet and he has brought musicians over from Havana to perform alongside him in the UK.

In his first show for BBC Radio 6 Music, Gilles' featured album comes from Canadian Jazz trio BadBadNotGood, and he also has exclusive session tracks from Armenian Pianist Tigran Hamasyan featuring a collaboration with London dubstep crew LV, record last month at the BBC's Maida Vale Studios.
