Brian Matthew presents this week's selection from the vault. Classic tracks from The Applejacks, Marvin Gaye, Del Shannon, The Small Faces, The Kinks, John Fred & His Playboy Band, The Beatles and The Hollies. Requests include The Merseys - Sorrow, Brian Poole & The Tremeloes - Swiss Maid and Paul Simon - I Am A Rock.

The BBC Session track is from Cream (Born Under A Bad Sign) and was recorded in 1967. There's the story of The Cherry Smash and their version of Sing Songs Of Love - later recorded by Manfred Mann. We also hear how Nickolas and Valerie Simpson wrote and sang on a track for Maxine Brown but then managed to get relegated to the B side of the release. And who was nicknamed The Singing Ranger?
