Anneka Rice
Radio 2, Saturdays 6-8am
Anneka Rice is no radio rookie. She started her media career working for the BBC World Service. At the age of 19 she bought a one-way ticket to Hong Kong where she presented the news on an English language TV station, as well as dubbing for local-made Kung Fu movies. Five years later she returned to the UK.
Unbelievably I'm even enjoying the early starts as I'm missing not having a young family anymoreAnneka Rice
In 1983, she landed her first major TV job as the jump-suited, constantly-in-motion skyrunner in 'Treasure Hunt'. This established her as TV's Action Girl, game for anything.
Anneka went on to develop the format for and front the BBC1 TV series 'Challenge Anneka'. The challenges took Anneka all over the world and raised money and resources for many needy and worthwhile projects.
In 1986, she was awarded the "Rear of the Year" award via The Sun newspaper. She was a regular stand-in for Gloria Hunniford on Radio 2 before taking time out of the limelight to raise her three sons and study.
Anneka says: "I started my career in BBC radio so I'm thrilled to be going full circle and back to my roots. Unbelievably I'm even enjoying the early starts as I'm missing not having a young family anymore".
