Pause For Thought
With Rev Rob Gillion, Rector of Holy Trinity Church and St Saviours.
Last week I had to attend a speed awareness course.
I have a number of points on my licence. Each time I have been caught by the camera I have been tempted to tell them I was on a life and death mission of mercy. That I was rushing to a seriously ill parishioner in hospital or my wife was driving. But it wouldn’t be true.
Not only would that be deceitful but once you begin to lie it is difficult to stop for it tends to escalate.. I am not proud of my driving record, speeding is breaking the law and can be dangerous and for that I have to take the consequences and I have been duly punished! I have been given a second chance by attending this course. Justice with mercy.
One of the promises Jesus gives his disciples is the truth will set you free. A clear conscience does indeed give you peace . For me peace is one of the most important gifts of life - as it enables you to face the consequences of your actions, learn from your mistakes and move on.
So Chris please don’t let me drive your Ferrari except of course on a race track!
