Synopsis

The people, places and stories that make Northern Ireland unique, presented by Anne Marie McAleese.

Enter The Dragon

This Saturday Belfast’s Donegall Pass will be transformed into a dazzling thoroughfare to celebrate the Year of the Dragon, the luckiest in the Chinese Zodiac.

There will be street performances, traditional Chinese cooking, martial artists, music, T’ai Chi – the works!

The day will finish in spectacular style with everyone invited to take part in the main Lion Dance along the lantern-strewn street.

One of the organisers of the Donegall Pass Chinese Community Festival, Pamela Lee, joins us in the middle of all the colour and fun.

Limavady in Pictures

Brian Mailey has spent the past two years gathering photographs of his hometown, Limavady.

In what started off as a hobby, he has now accumulated over two thousand images, with some even dating back to the late 1880’s.

The collection includes well known faces from the town as well as iconic buildings such as the railway station.

Brian is about to display his collection at the Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre, and joins us to tell us all about it.

Trail of the Barn Owl

The magnificent barn owl is possibly the most iconic of the owl species.

Shy and elusive, these fluffy mild mannered birds are usually found nesting in our farmlands away from human presence.

However, the future of the barn owl is under threat. It is estimated that there are only forty breeding pairs left in Northern Ireland, the lowest it has ever been.

Our reporter Deirdre Donnelly goes in search of the barn owl in County Tyrone with Conor McKinney from the Ulster Wildlife Trust.

Blackthorn Piper Society

The newly formed Blackthorn Pipers' Society meets every month for a night of entertainment and chat.

Based in County Down, the group attract members from all over the globe, including Canada and Scotland.

The group's Secretary, Andy Wilson, and ten year old musician, Ryan Cupples, perform live in the studio to offer a little flavour of their monthly get-togethers.
