Synopsis

Unit Four Plus Two had a big UK hit with Concrete and Clay but it didn't do so well in America. You can find out why in this edition of Sounds of the Sixties. There is also the story of the day Roy met John and why the Big O was rather annoyed to discover he wasn't top of the bill. Other tracks this week come from Dionne Warwick, The Avons, actor Robert Horton (Wagon Train), Jack Scott, Brenda Lee, Three Dog Night (with a Beatles' cover), David Gates and the great organ grinder Jimmy Smith. And just who was Seth Martin?

There is another Roy Orbison connection in Loose Connections and the BBC session track was recorded in 1964 by The Kinks for Saturday Club.
