Today we him them in a pair of twentieth-century works: Holloway's Serenade in C op.41, commissioned by the Nash Ensemble in 1978 and scored for the same instrumentation as the Schubert Octet; and Ravel's Introduction and Allegro, written for the unorthodox combination of harp, flute, clarinet and string quartet

The Essential Classics guest is actor and director Philip Franks, well known for his performances on stage and screen, including The Darling Buds of May, Heartbeat, Bleak House and numerous leading roles with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
